Newly elected King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality Mayor, Mkhanyiseli Dudumayo, has outlined economic growth and improved basic service delivery as his administration’s top priorities.
Dudumayo was elected during a municipal council meeting held in Mthatha on Friday, 3 July 2026. He was voted into office following the resignation of the former mayor, Nyaniso Nelani.
Speaking after his election, Dudumayo said his administration would focus on creating an environment that attracts investment while unlocking the municipality’s economic potential. A key area of focus will be developing opportunities within the ocean economy, which he believes could help stimulate local growth and create jobs.
“There’s potential in the ocean economy. Developers will be able to assist us in tapping into that line. We have a responsibility to make sure that the potential in the industrial area comes in numbers. We also have a responsibility in terms of our road network to make sure our roads are in good condition,” Dudumayo said.
He added that improving infrastructure, particularly the municipality’s road network, will form part of broader efforts to strengthen the local economy, encourage investment, and improve the delivery of essential services to residents.
