Spain wins 2026 FIFA World Cup

Date:

The 2026 FIFA World Cup featured a record-breaking 48 teams. This marked the first time the tournament expanded beyond the previous 32-team format. The World Cup was jointly hosted by three North American countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.

After 104 games, across 3 countries over five and a half weeks, Spain played against Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and walked away with victory. In the 106th minute of the match, Ferran Torres scored to lift Spain to their second World cup title with a 1-0 win.

Alongside other host nations, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump handed out medals to the players and co-presented the iconic golden FIFA World Cup trophy to Spain’s captain, Rodrigo “Rodri” Hernandez Cascante. Rodri also won the Golden Ball award for the best player at the 2026 World Cup.

Spain’s triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be remembered as a defining moment in football history, not only for securing their second global title but also for signalling the transition between generations. While Argentina’s Lionel Messi’s legacy remains firmly cemented among the sport’s greatest, the emergence of young talents like Lamine Yamal shows that the future of football remains bright. As the world reflects on a tournament filled with unforgettable moments, Spain’s victory marks the beginning of a new chapter in the beautiful game.
