Maskandi musician Sicebi Dlamini, popularly known as Inkos’Yamagcokama, has died following a vehicle accident in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
Dlamini was travelling to Richards Bay to perform when the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday. One other passenger also died at the scene, while two others were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, said the crash occurred at a traffic light opposite Melomed Hospital in Richards Bay.
“We express our deepest condolences to the mothers of the occupants, and we wish the two other victims a speedy recovery,” Duma said.
Tributes have since been shared by members of the music industry and political organisations.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) also expressed its condolences on X, describing Dlamini’s death as a great loss and saying his legacy would live on among those who knew and respected him.
Popular maskandi artist Khuzani also paid tribute to Dlamini in a message shared on social media.
“Ngempela angazi ukuthi ngithini. Kufa, ukuba besilwazi udonsi lwakho ngabe angikena. Phumulani ngokuthula, madoda. Nisishiye nenxeba elingeke liphole,” Khuzani said.
The KwaZulu-Natal South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
Further details about the accident and the identities of the other victims are expected as investigations continue.
