TSHWANE, GAUTENG: Forty-eight foreign nationals were arrested by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) during operations in Centurion, Pretoria North and Cullinan on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
According to the TMPD, the individuals were unable to produce valid documentation when approached by officers during routine operations in the three areas.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Department of Home Affairs’ immigration services for further assessment and legal processes.
“The primary objective of these operations is to enforce by-laws, enhance public safety and ensure compliance with national legislation,” the TMPD said.
Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya also commented on the arrests, saying she hoped those found to be in the country unlawfully would not simply return to the communities where they were arrested. “I hope these 48 illegal foreigners don’t get released back into our communities,” Moya said.
The arrests form part of ongoing law-enforcement operations across Tshwane. The TMPD said it remains committed to maintaining law and order throughout the city. The immigration status and any further action against those arrested will be determined through the appropriate processes of the Department of Home Affairs.
