Motorsport competitors from the Eastern Cape delivered impressive performances on both local and international circuits over the weekend, reinforcing the province’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for top racing talent.
Leading the charge was circuit racing driver Joshua Moore, who produced a dominant performance at the opening round of the ATE VW Challenge at Zwartkops Raceway. Moore claimed victory in both heats, demonstrating strong pace and control throughout the event.
His double victory places him among the standout drivers to watch as the circuit racing season gathers momentum.
On the international stage, Dominic Doyle also made his mark at the prestigious Daytona 200 at Daytona International Speedway in the United States. Riding a Yamaha R9 for the Liberty ST Team, Doyle secured an impressive sixth-place finish in the gruelling 200-mile endurance race against a highly competitive international field.
Reflecting on his performance, Doyle expressed satisfaction with the result and the team’s efforts.
“Happy to leave Daytona with some solid points to start the season. I lost touch with the lead group early on, but after 57 laps around the high-banked corners of Daytona I’m happy to have put in good consistent lap-times all race long,” he said.
Fellow South African rider Darryn Binder also delivered a strong showing in the same race. Binder remained in contention for a podium finish for much of the race but ultimately crossed the line in fourth place after a tightly contested battle to the finish.
Meanwhile, back in South Africa, Zander Taljaard continued his impressive form at Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town. Taljaard secured second place overall and recorded a new personal best lap time of 1 minute 15.4 seconds, highlighting his growing consistency in the championship.
These performances underline the Eastern Cape’s increasing influence in the motorsport world. The success of drivers and riders from the region reflects both the depth of local talent and the strength of development structures that continue to produce competitors capable of performing on some of the sport’s most competitive stages.
