The Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality has hosted its second Transport Forum meeting, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen coordination aimed at improving transport systems and road infrastructure across the region.
The meeting, held on 5 March 2026, was attended by representatives from the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, municipal officials, public transport operators and other sector departments.
Discussions focused on aligning transport planning with the needs of local communities while improving service delivery.
The forum builds on collaboration initiated during the first meeting in November last year. Key issues discussed included road maintenance, scholar transport services, public transport challenges and improved coordination between law-enforcement agencies.
Stakeholders also highlighted the importance of capacitating forum members so they are better equipped to assist communities and respond to transport-related challenges.
During the meeting, departments provided updates on ongoing interventions, including road safety initiatives and efforts to strengthen communication between municipal, district and provincial structures. Railway-related matters affecting the municipality were also raised as part of broader discussions on improving the regional transport network.
The Transport Forum serves as a platform to ensure that transport projects are effectively planned, monitored and aligned with the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
The municipality expressed appreciation for the participation of all stakeholders and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration to improve transport services for residents.
