Operations at Cape Town International Airport have returned to normal following a fire on Tuesday that temporarily disrupted flights.
According to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) spokesperson Ofentse Dijoe, the blaze broke out at the airport’s International inner lane on the landside. Emergency teams responded swiftly, extinguishing the fire shortly after it began.
As a precaution, passengers and staff were safely evacuated from affected areas, and incoming international flights were diverted to alternative airports while emergency protocols were implemented.
The incident also affected key airport systems, including Wi-Fi and other operational networks, contributing to delays as technical teams worked to restore functionality.
Dijoe confirmed that power has been restored and all operations are now back to normal. Authorities reported no injuries linked to the incident.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with the airport reviewing safety and operational procedures to prevent future disruptions. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for any residual schedule adjustments, though flights are expected to proceed as planned.
