Camdeboo Football Academy Snatch Late Victory Over Buffalo City Relatives

Date:

Graaff-Reinet — Camdeboo Football Academy Development (FAD) produced a determined performance to secure a hard-fought 2–1 victory against FC Buffalo City Relatives of East London in an exciting Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe Foundation League clash played at Botanics sports field on Tuesday afternoon, 10 March.

The match began at a lively pace, with both sides adopting an attacking approach from the first whistle. Chances were created at both ends as the teams pushed forward aggressively, entertaining spectators with end-to-end football.

Camdeboo FAD suffered a setback when an unfortunate positioning error inside the penalty area resulted in an own goal in the 40th minute, handing the visitors the lead before halftime. Despite the disappointment, the home side remained composed and continued to execute their tactical plan.

Head coach Sanele Shozi praised his team’s resilience and tactical discipline after the match, highlighting their ability to adapt against a strong and experienced opponent.

“We anticipated their high-pressing style, but it allowed us to exploit open spaces and create width and depth in our passing lanes,” said Shozi. “The desire, resilience and championship mentality we instill in the players made the difference.”

Camdeboo’s defensive unity proved crucial as the team regained possession through effective counter-attacks and maintained positional discipline in midfield and defence. A standout performance from the goalkeeper also played a decisive role, producing several important saves to keep the hosts in contention.

Shozi emphasized the evolving importance of modern goalkeeping, noting that today’s goalkeepers are not only shot-stoppers but also leaders and playmakers responsible for organizing defence and initiating attacks. Specialized training, he explained, focuses on core skills such as catching, diving, blocking, distribution, agility, reaction speed and decision-making under pressure.

The victory reflects Camdeboo FAD’s growing confidence and tactical maturity as they continue their campaign in the ABC Motsepe Foundation League, demonstrating both technical ability and mental strength in challenging match situations.

With momentum now on their side, Camdeboo Football Academy will look to build on this important win as the season progresses.
