Five Women Arrested at OR Tambo International Airport with R5 Million Worth of Drugs Concealed on Their Bodies

Date:

Five South African women have been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after authorities uncovered drugs worth more than R5 million concealed on their bodies.

The suspects were apprehended by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), working together with the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). Police confirmed that the arrests took place on Saturday following a search operation at the airport.

Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk confirmed the details, stating “A preliminary report suggests that the suspects were en route to China via Dubai. A search led to the discovery of drugs concealed inside their sneakers, underwear and private parts.”

The five suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 31 March, where they will face charges related to drug trafficking.

Authorities believe the women may have been acting as drug mules as part of a broader trafficking operation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the drugs and whether more individuals are involved.

Law enforcement officials say the arrests form part of continued efforts to curb drug trafficking through major transport hubs in South Africa.
