Orange Level 6 Snow Warning

Date:

An Orange Level 6 warning has been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for disruptive snowfall in parts of Eastern Cape from Sunday 9 August until Tuesday, 11 August 2026. The areas that are going to be affected are Chris Hani District, Dr Beyers Naudé, Senqu, Matatiele and Elundi local municipalities.

SAWS alerted that heavy snow may affect livelihood, disrupt traffic and temporarily isolate some communities. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, take precautions and monitor weather updates, particularly those in rural and high-lying areas.

Farmers are also urged to take necessary safety measures to protect livestock from the very cold conditions. Motorists driving through affected areas are encouraged to exercise caution.

The warning follows an earlier advisory for the region on 5 August regarding a cold front, snow, heavy rain and strong winds. Residents should continue to monitor updates from SAWS, disaster-management authorities and traffic officials as conditions develop.
