Probe Launched After Feroz Khan Shooting

Date:

A specialised police task team is now investigating the shooting of suspended Crime Intelligence Deputy Head, Major-General Feroz Khan. Khan was ambushed on Sunday night, 28 June 2026, in Third Avenue, Houghton. Gunmen opened fire on him in what police believe was a targeted hit. He was rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital with gunshot wounds to his lower body and remains in a critical condition.

Early reports say two men in a white car carried out the attack. eNCA also reports they were driving a Mercedes-Benz. SAPS has not confirmed those details yet.

The pressure is high because of the timing. Khan was due to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on 1 July. SAPS moved quickly and put together a team from the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and the Political Killings Task Team.

“We urge the public not to speculate,” SAPS said in a statement. “It is premature to link the attack to his scheduled appearance. Detectives will follow the evidence wherever it leads.”

Khan’s name has been in the headlines for months. He was arrested in May with two others over an alleged precious metals syndicate. They’re facing corruption and illegal possession charges in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court. All three were released on R20,000 bail. He’s also been linked to the controversial 2021 Aeroton drug bust.

Outside Milpark on Sunday night, his lawyer declined to comment. Family members asked police to find those responsible, fast. For now, the motive is still unknown. Investigation are underway.
