Protest Shuts Down N2 Between Bhisho and KuGompo City

Date:

The N2 highway between Bhisho and KuGompo City has been closed following a protest at the Breidbach Interchange in the Eastern Cape.

According to Eastern Cape Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose, demonstrators blocked the road with burning tyres and other objects, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Law enforcement officers have since been deployed to the area and are working to manage the situation while redirecting motorists to alternative routes where possible.

Binqose acknowledged the disruption caused by the closure, saying the blockade has significantly affected commuters, including government employees.

“We are aware that the closure of the N2 on the Breidbach interchange is causing major inconvenience to motorists, including civil servants and members of the public who may be rushing to medical appointments and other important commitments,” said Binqose.

He added that authorities remain on the scene to restore order and reopen the route safely.

“Law enforcement agencies are onscene managing the situation, while traffic is being diverted to alternative routes where possible. We appeal for patience and cooperation from all affected road users as efforts continue to safely restore the free flow of traffic,” he said.
