Cold Fronts Trigger Flood Warnings in Three Provinces

Date:

Severe weather warnings have been issued for parts of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape as multiple cold fronts are expected to impact the regions until Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange Level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall affecting areas including Stellenbosch, Drakenstein, Theewaterskloof, Breede Valley and Witzenberg.

Forecasts indicate that these areas could receive between 200mm and 300mm of rainfall, raising concerns over mudslides, overflowing rivers and widespread flooding of roads and low-lying areas.

An Orange Level 6 warning has also been issued for Cape Town, the West Coast, Cape Winelands and Overberg regions due to expected heavy rainfall and dangerous weather conditions linked to the approaching cold fronts.

Meanwhile, humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers continues relief operations in the Southern Cape and Eastern Cape, where severe flooding has already displaced and affected thousands of residents.

Authorities have urged communities to remain alert, avoid flooded roads and rivers, and follow official safety instructions as the severe weather system moves across the affected provinces.
