Needle Worker Left Devastated After repeated theft

Date:

A local sewing worker has been left devastated after electrical cables and equipment were allegedly stolen from the New Horizon Women Co-operative, disrupting the workshop’s daily operations.

Hanna Makoba arrived at the workplace on Friday morning, 25 September, only to discover that the wiring connections to the sewing machines had been stolen.

The theft has affected the operation of the sewing workshop, where several machines are used to produce clothing and other items. The missing cables have made it difficult to operate some of the equipment.

Makoba said the incident was particularly heartbreaking as it was the second time the workplace had been broken into. She started the women’s co-operative in 1999 with a group of women from the community to create jobs and support their families.

Other items reported missing include extensions, multi-plugs, scissors, electrical scissors, surveillance cameras, a recording device and two computer monitors. The incident has been reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation. Community members have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information that could assist in recovering the stolen property.

New Horizon Women Co-operative also provides training to members of the community.Meanwhile, the co-operative and Asherville Secondary School are organising a fashion show in October under the theme, “Heritage in Style”. The event aims to raise funds to assist the school with security and maintenance at its premises.

New Horizon Women Co-operative can be contacted on 083 338 1722.
