Residents in the western suburbs and some northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape continue to struggle with persistent water outages, leaving many households without dependable access to water for the past two weeks.
One affected resident, Bonke Mvimbi, says the intermittent supply has severely disrupted daily routines, forcing families to depend on water tankers and bottled water to meet basic needs.
“We are having a terrible time. We are forced to buy bottled water from Checkers, Spar and other retail outlets and often they run out of stock. So, then we are forced to travel out of town for water,” he said.
Meanwhile, Babalwa Lobishe, Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, conducted an oversight visit to the Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works to evaluate the situation firsthand.
Lobishe acknowledged the seriousness of the crisis, saying efforts are underway to restore stability to the water supply.
“We are faced with a huge problem; however, we are trying to pump water from our dams. It’s not an easy task,” she said.
