Komani United FC Edges Camdeboo Football Academy in Thrilling League Clash

Date:

Komani United FC secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Camdeboo Football Academy in an entertaining ABC Motsepe League encounter at the Botanics in Graaff-Reinet on Saturday evening, 21 February.

The visitors started with confidence and control, asserting dominance early in the first half. Komani United capitalised on sharp transition play and disciplined positioning, opening the scoring in the 28th minute before doubling their lead in the 39th.

Their effective use of the wings and quick movement in attack exposed defensive gaps, leaving the home side trailing 2–0 at halftime.

Camdeboo coach Sanele Shozi admitted his side struggled to contain the visitors in the opening half.

“I think they deserved to win. They dominated the first half and managed to score two goals. They caught us on transition play and punished us effectively,” Shozi said.

The home side responded with urgency after the break. Five positional changes and a more attacking approach shifted the momentum in Camdeboo’s favour, increasing pressure on the visitors.

Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when they pulled a goal back, reigniting hope among the home supporters.

Komani United coach Vuyisani Mangaliso said his side anticipated a tough contest and approached the match with determination.

“We knew it was going to be difficult. We had to fight for the three points. We did not come here for a draw, but we knew Camdeboo is a good team,” Mangaliso said.

Despite late pressure, Komani United remained composed in defence to see out the victory and secure all three points.

Shozi praised his youthful squad for their resilience and willingness to adapt, describing the encounter as a valuable learning experience.

“This game was a true reflection that football is a teacher. I am proud of how the boys responded in the second half and the lessons we learned,” he said.

Camdeboo Football Academy team manager Dan Memese thanked the Graaff-Reinet community for its support.

“We thank the people of Graaff-Reinet for rallying behind the team. It is a great pleasure and honour to see our community supporting us in such numbers,” he said.

Although the result went against them, Camdeboo showed encouraging signs of growth. With continued development and community backing, the academy remains optimistic about improving in upcoming fixtures.
